Dennis Perrin

Dennis Perrin Floral Painting Workshop – Indianapolis  March 2017

Hewook Lee brought together many wonderful painters for 4 days, to study with the very talented and insightful Floral and Portrait painter Dennis Perrin.  Accompanied by his wife and portrait model Aimee Perrin,  the two of them lead our group of painters through the Perrin Method.  Learning Dennis’ methods on how to create a strong painting, right from the beginning, made a lot of sense to me.  Everyone in the class spoke of how this was such an insightful learning experience.   Dennis has a way of nailing down the forms solidly at the beginning of the painting, staying true to their separate forms, values, and colors. As you see from his beautiful flower painting above, Dennis definitely has this figured out.

Below is Perrin’s initial block in stage.  Refer back to his almost finished painting above, and you can see his structure remains, in all the ways mentioned!

Working with Dennis Perrin’s methods were tremendously helpful.  I have not often painted many flower arrangements, and I was pleased with the outcome of what I could finish by the end of the course.

Group night on the town!  Stutz Motor Company building tour.  http://www.thestutz.com/

Started with a visit to C.W. Mundy Art Studio at the STUTZ Auto Building.  http://cwmundy.com/

C.W. Mundy & Dennis Perrin chillin in CW’s brilliant STUTZ studio!

Thank You CW for inviting the entire Perrin painting group into your amazing art studio, sharing with us all your love for creating your art.  Totally blown away by your large portraits and landscape paintings in the most beautiful and elaborate frames!  Really enjoyed listening to Jazz too!

The STUTZ building has now turned itself over into many working artist studios.  Martha Sando, one of the students in Dennis Perrin’s workshop, also has her studio space in this most historic Indianapolis landmark.  She invited me in to view her STUTZ studio, with its tall North facing windows, and cozy radiant heat sent to her from the STUTZ boiler room.   http://www.marthasando.com/

This is a true artist working space, where Martha creates many beautiful landscape paintings!  We will be roomies at this year’s PACE 2017 San Diego,  CA.  http://pleinairconvention.com/

Next stop the Indianapolis Museum of Art  http://www.imamuseum.org/

Frank Benson’s  “Sunlight” at the Indianapolis Museum of Art

Dennis referred to this painting during his workshop, it was the reason the class went out investigating this evening to IMA and the extra bonus invite to C.W. Mundy’s STUTZ Art studio.  Seeing such a painting and so many other masterful works of historic artists, was humbling.  They paved a way for today’s contemporaries to spring board from, into even deeper insights and visual beauties of  world we live in today!

Had a super time learning to paint “David Austin Roses” that traveled all the way from Columbia, to model for this workshop.  It was a true honour to be with all these amazing artists, as we gleaned every drop of information both spoken and demonstrated by Dennis!  Happy Painting to each of you! Xxxx

Dennis’ words of advice to us were, “just have fun! And let it flow from you!”
Thank you Dennis Perrin for sharing with this small Group in Indiana!  Dennis also shares this with the entire world for anyone interested in his work.  http://www.dennisperrinfineart.com/
